Gods, Giants and Warriors of Midgard

The album moves between three worlds. Warriors open and close it: the berserker’s call, the hero Bjarki of Bjarkamál and the wolf-warriors of Úlfheðnar. Between them come the gods, with Thor’s call, Loki’s deception and the wrath of Asgard, and the powers that threaten them: the giants, Hel and the wolves that chase the sun and moon.

Each song is a modern composition, not a reconstruction of Viking Age music, and the album’s order is its own. The song pages set out which images come from the Eddas, the sagas and the archaeological record, and which belong to the song. For the background, read the guides to the Norse gods and goddesses and to seiðr.
