Why is Thor called the “Protector of Midgard”?
In Norse cosmology, Midgard (Earth) is surrounded by Jötunheim (Land of Giants). The Giants constantly try to destroy the world with ice and fire. Thor is the only force strong enough to keep them at bay, making him the guardian of humanity.
What is the origin of Mjölnir?
According to the Skáldskaparmál, Mjölnir was forged by the dwarf brothers Sindri and Brokkr as part of a bet with Loki. Although the handle came out too short (because Loki turned into a fly and bit the dwarf’s eyelid), it was deemed the greatest gift of all because it never misses its mark and always returns to the thrower’s hand.
Does Thor have a chariot?
Yes. The sound of thunder is said to be caused by the wheels of his chariot rolling across the sky. It is pulled by two magical goats, Tanngrisnir (Teeth-barer) and Tanngnjóstr (Teeth-grinder), who can be eaten and resurrected the next day (as long as their bones are not broken).
