From the Call to the Gods to Valhalla

The album opens with Kall til guða, a call to Odin and Thor before battle, and moves through the days of war and Blóð ok eld towards the great figures of the end of the world. Fenrir awakens, Thor’s hammer shines, the Einherjar rise and Jörmungandr rises from the sea before Ragnarök Kemr brings the final battle. Valhöll bíður, “Valhalla Awaits,” closes the sequence.

The order is the album’s own. The medieval sources do not tell these events as one sequence of songs, and the lyrics are modern compositions in a stylized Nordic register, not reconstructions of Viking Age music. Each song page separates what comes from the Eddas from what the song invents. For the mythological background, read the guides to Ragnarök, Thor and Valhalla.
