From the first oar stroke to the ghost ship: a voyage in five sails.
No Viking rowing song survives in writing, but seafaring fills Norse poetry: skalds praised ships, storms and voyages in rich verse, and rhythmic chanting is a natural companion to rowing in every maritime culture. Our sea songs imagine what those voices over the water might have sounded like.
In Norse folklore a draugr is an undead being, a corpse that walks again, guards its grave mound or, in sea tales, haunts the waters that drowned it. Draugr á Hafinu turns the sea draugr into sound: a dead captain sailing an endless, cursed voyage.
These songs are favourites for travel and road trips, for sailing and coastal walks, for writing and study sessions that want a moving horizon, and for maritime gaming from longship raids to ocean survival. The rolling drums and answering horns are built to carry you forward.
